Book review

My first book review – “Crenshaw”

Hey there, my lovely readers!!!!

I’m really sory for vanishing right after the moment I post Where was I? I’m back now and so glad that I am! I will soon, post my schedule for all the posts that I will be posting throughout the week. But for now I’d like to move on with the post…..

PROBABLY MY BEST HOBBY EVER…..

I have tons of hobbies, and among them my most favourite one is reading!! I like to consider myself an intense reader, because once, if I’m onto reading a book I’m forever hooked into it until I finish it. This hobby started when I was in 4th grade. And that’s when my love for books was just a tiny seedling in my head ready to grow into a tree that is what is right now! Till today I’ve read a whole lot of books (definitely can’t name them!) and yes, I have read all the big, small-sized letter, long paragraph containing books that some of you may find rather boring.

WHY DO I LOVE SITTING FRONT OF PAPERS FOR HOURS!?

As I said, some of you may find reading books uninteresting, but just for once (those who don’t like reading) open a small, easy book and just..start reading. You will surely be amazed by how the book keeps you awake for a few more hours before bedtime, and how it keeps you wondering about the story and the characters. It’s also about the way you relate yourself to the character and how you build your imagination by thinking about the story plot.

Reading has many benefits like, you start to enjoy history because its just like any novel that you would read! And books without pictures lets your mind wander like a crazy-cheetah running to prey on images that suit the character and the storyline. For me, reading a book becomes INTERESTING because I think of the main charcter as me. What would I do if I were him/her? What would I think if I were him/her? And that’s how I put myself literally inside the book.

Now, I would like to give a proper review (hope so!) of Crenshaw.

The blurb of the story:

LIFE IS TOUGH for ten-year-old Jackson. The landlord is often at the door, there’s not enough food in the fridge and he’s worried that anyday now the family will have to move out of their home. Again.

CRENSHAW IS A CAT. He’s large, he’s outspoken and he’s imaginary. He’s come back into Jackson’s life to help him – but is an imaginary friend enough to save this family from losing everything?

That’s an interesting blurb to the story, right? keep on reading….

Things I love about Crenshaw……..

  • the book : I really loved the cover of the book; it’s the main character Jackson along with the ginourmous cat, Crenshaw. In the cover,it looks like a park in the evening right after dusk. Jackson is sitting next to Crenshaw  on a wooden bench and both of them are looking at something faraway, probably thinking of what the next dawn would bring…. I also loved the font of the tiltle. And when you touch it, it gives a lovely effect of it being 3-d! ( I am crazy about such fonts!!)
  • the story: the story is about a small family and all the hardships they face due to financial problems. It is a heart-warming story about family and friendships by Katherine Applegate.
  • the concept: Crenshaw is actually an imaginary friend who is a cat, who helps Jackson throughout the story. An imaginary friend makes things more interesting in the story!

What I think of the story……….

I really loved the storyline, and the story. The author has put together the perfect mix of family, love, joy and hardships. Jackson is a ten year old boy who loves facts. He hates the idea of magic and imaginary things (totally different from me!!). He wants life to be meaningful with reality. Life is tough for his parents whose jobs are not sufficient to run the family. And Jack knows this. He is way too grown-up for his age. He understands the facts. He understands the reality that his parents are having a hard time. But his parents hide the fact that they are struggling because they think that the kids need not have to worry about financial problems at an age where they should laugh, enjoy and witness their childhood that comes only once. Jackson wants his parents to take this issue serious with him, leaving aside his younger sister Robin. Crenshaw was Jackson’s imaginary friend. He used to come in Jackson’s life whenever life was hard for Jackson. But Crenshaw returns again. After so many years. Maybe this is because Jackson’s life would be hard again.

I really like the story from here onwards because it’s about how Crenshaw changes the way Jackson thinks and teaches him to be truthful with his parents and always love them. I love this story, because it shows that everything is in you. Crenshaw was a fragment of Jackson’s mind who helped him in the hard situations of his life. It’s all in our mind unless we find it. This is why I HUGELY ENJOYED this book.

DOES JACKSON’S PARENTS’ FIND A WAY TO RUN THE FAMILY? DOES CRENSHAW REALLY HELP JACKSON IN HIS LIFE?

I don’t want to ruin the excitment by answering these questions. You can get this book on amazon, online or in any other book store near you! Be sure to check this book out!

WHAT ABOUT YOU? HAVE YOU READ ‘CRENSHAW? IF YES, DID YOU LIKE IT /NOT AND WHY? WOULD YOU LIKE TO TRY IT? DID YOU HAVE AN IMAGINARY FRIEND IN YOUR CHILDHOOD?

DO LET ME KNOW IN THE COMMENTS!

Until the next post, bye!

      1. You’re very welcome! Yes, it’s so much fun. 🙂 I love historical fiction and fantasy the most! But a good romance from time to time is lovely, as well. Thank you!!
